What it is
Single Plan Assessment (SPA) is a new upgrade in Rico that brings the assessment of plan documents onto a single page.
Previously, rules and provisions were assessed across separate pages for each document. As Rico has scaled to cover more plans, we’ve found:
-
Rules often reference provisions (and vice versa), creating unnecessary back-and-forth for users.
-
Users often prefer to select provisions during plan assessment steps, and then assess them when incorporating them into reports.
-
Assessment functionality added over time (e.g. multiple ways of assessing rules, commenting tools) had become disorganised and clunky.
SPA addresses these issues by:
-
Enabling Rico to handle more complex and interconnected plans.
-
Streamlining the user experience into a single page, with a consistent approach across rules and provisions.
-
Making referencing and commenting more flexible, so assessments can happen naturally as part of report preparation.
Why use it
-
All-in-one view: Assess everything on a single page - no more jumping between rules and provisions.
-
Improved UX: A cleaner, compact layout makes assessments and comments faster to complete.
-
Flexibility and ability to comment added to references:
-
Ability to toggle off and on what types of provisions are shown
- Ability to hide irrelevant provisions from references for better presentation
- Ability to add comments against references directly in reports without needing to jump back to Plan Assessment steps.
-
Roll-out strategy (early opt-in)
-
SPA is an update to the existing Plan Assessment functionality and requires a configuration update to enable.
-
The change is fully backwards compatible, so no other actions are required on your end.
-
Organisations can opt in early by letting us know. Otherwise, customers will be transitioned progressively through our Customer Success channels.
Changes to expect

When SPA is switched on for your organisation, you’ll notice:
Plan assessment outputs
-
Outputs now take up less space in reports, addressing feedback about long and repetitive sections.
-
Layout has shifted from three columns to two, with activity statuses and rule assessments moved to the right-hand column (above comments).
New interactions
-
Rules: Click directly through Complies / Does not comply options.
-
Right-click menu: Access additional options (e.g. N/A).
- Comments: Add comments directly into plan assessment reference tables within your workflow - these save automatically to the plan assessment.
